Blood Orange Mojito

This tasty twist on a Cuban classic combines the zesty and refreshing flavor of blood oranges with the coolness of fresh mint.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of simple syrup
  • 1 blood orange cut into quarters
  • 8 mint leaves
  • 2 ounces Cuban white rum
  • 4 ounces Club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Blood orange slices for garnish
  • mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  • Muddle the mint with the simple syrup in a shaker.
  • Add the rum, lime juice and ice, and give it a brief shake, then strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Alternatively, you can use pebble ice instead and gently swizzle it all together.
  • Top with the club soda.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.

Variations/substitutions for this classic cuban cocktail

  • Craving a frozen mojito? Place the juice of 1-2 blood oranges, mint, rum, simple syrup along with ¼ cup of ice in a blender and pulse until well combined.
  • Don't have blood oranges? You can make a traditional mojito using limes instead.
  • Don't have Cuban rum? Bacardi Rum is a good alternative. Dark rum can also be used in a pinch.
  • Don't have white granulated sugar for the simple syrup? Use brown sugar instead.
