Halloween season is here and that means it's time for scary movies and spooky snacks! Who doesn't love a fun Halloween themed snack or appetizer? These bloody finger hot dogs are perfect for your Halloween parties!

These hot dogs can be enjoyed for a fun dinner by the whole family or a spooky Halloween snack at a party. Halloween is honestly my favorite holiday and preparing Halloween food is the highlight for me.

    Ingredients needed

This is such an easy recipe and you'll only need

    • your choice of hot dogs (kosher, beef etc)
    • hot dog buns (sweet rolls, potato bread rolls etc)

    Equipment needed

For these fun halloween snacks, you all you need is a good pairing knife.

How to make your Halloween hot dog fingers

    • First thing you'll need to do is remove the hot dogs from their packaging.
    • To make the fingernails, slice the two sides of the fingernail, then straight across the top. Then make a slight curved slice for the bottom nail bed. Your slices should be very shallow, only about ⅛ of an inch deep.
    • Next, take your knife and carefully slice the fingernail piece off the top.
    • Make the knuckles, make one straight slit along the middle with two crescent slits directly above and below it at the center of the hot dog.
    • At this point, spray a large frying pan with non stick cooking oil and set your stove top to medium high. Place your hot dogs in the frying pan and cook them until all sides of the hot dogs are cooked and slightly golden.
    • Prepare your hot dogs buns with your choice of toppings, you want the toppings under the hot dogs so your main focal point in the "finger."
    • Place each hot dog finger into your prepared hot dog bun and serve to your little goblins.

    Topping ideas

    • Ketchup
    • bbq sauce
    • spaghetti sauce
    • saurkraut
    • pickles or relish
    • mustard
    • potato stix
    • potato chips of choice
    • black olives
    • green olives
    • onions
    • cole slaw
    • shredded cheese

Can you make these ahead of time ?

I definitely recommend carving the details on the hot dogs ahead of time to save yourself the trouble of cutting eat and every dog right before your party. The uncooked hot dogs can be carved upto 3-4 days in advance as long as being kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

I do not recommend cooking the hot dogs ahead of time as they are best served hot.

    Storage

Have a lot of bloody finger hot dogs left over after your Halloween party or Halloween dinner? Cooked hot dogs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for upto 3 days. Reheat in the microwave covered with a damn paper towel to ensure the hot dogs don't dry out.

My name is Cari and I'm the person behind FatgirlHedonist.com. I'm born and raised in Miami (Hialeah if you'd like specifics) and proud Latina. I'm a single mom to a very curious toddler. I completed a culinary program in high school that made my love of food blossom, but my career went in a very different direction. No matter what turns my life has taken, cooking, baking and eating have always been three of my favorite activities. I'm lucky enough that I can have this blog as an outlet for those three passions.
