Origins of the Cuban mojito
The original Cuban mojito is made with limes, sugar, mint and rum. Much like the Cuban daiquiri, this drink was created centuries ago.
It's exact origins are still debated. Some believe a rough form of this drink was created by South American indigenous tribes as a remedy for illnesses. Others believe the drink originated from Sir Francis Drake in the 1500's, a pirate who muddled together mint, lime and sugarcane to hide the harsh flavor of a crude rum.
The drink was later popularized by Ernest Hemingway.
