This delicious recipe is one of my favorite ways of combining fresh flavors, sweetness and spice. This is the perfect combination of sweet and savory and I love adding it to all sorts of dishes or even eating it as a dip with homemade tortilla chips.

Why you'll love this pineapple habanero salsa recipe

    • This excellent salsa is loaded consists of only fresh vegetables and fruit.
    • This fruit salsa is a great source of Vitamin C.
    • This recipe is 100% gluten-free, dairy-free, low carb, and vegan.
    • This typical salsa recipe is ready in 5 minutes.
    • This pineapple salsa is great for summer because it's the perfect combination of the sweetness of the pineapple with the spicy heat of habanero.
    • This homemade spicy salsa is great to serve at a game day party as an appetizer with some salty tortilla chips.
    • This goes great as a topping on fish, chicken, fish tacos or even queso fundido.

    Ingredients

    • Fresh Pineapple
    • Habanero peppers
    • fresh tomatoes
    • red onion
    • fresh cilantro
    • fresh lime juice
    • garlic clove
    • kosher salt and pepper

    Instructions

Chop your sweet pineapple, onions, tomatoes into small bite size pieces and place in a small bowl.

Wear gloves to handle the orange habanero chile pepper. Slice the pepper in half and remove seeds. Mince the habanero into tiny, small pieces. Adjust the level of heat by adding more or less Habanero. Add the minced habanero to the bowl with rest of homemade salsa

Add to the bowl lime juice, salt and pepper.

Mix to combine and serve at room temperature.

    Tips

Handling the peppers can cause a burning sensation on your skin. Best practice is to wear gloves while handing the peppers.

The seeds and membranes (the white parts inside the pepper)from the habanero peppers are very spicy. Be sure to remove them.

If you're not using gloves, be sure to wash your hands with soap and rubbing alcohol after handling these peppers. Do NOT touch your mouth or eyes after touching these peppers.

    Variations and substitutions

Don't have red onion? Use white onion instead

Don't want to use really hot peppers like Habanero? Use Jalapeno peppers or your choice of hot sauce for mild heat.

Don't have limes? Use lemon juice instead

Don't like chunky salsas? Use a food processor for a smooth homemade dip

    Storage

Place any left over salsa in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for upto 3 days.

My name is Cari and I'm the person behind FatgirlHedonist.com. I'm born and raised in Miami (Hialeah if you'd like specifics) and proud Latina. I'm a single mom to a very curious toddler. I completed a culinary program in high school that made my love of food blossom, but my career went in a very different direction. No matter what turns my life has taken, cooking, baking and eating have always been three of my favorite activities. I'm lucky enough that I can have this blog as an outlet for those three passions.
